Restoring Worn & Damaged Marble
Dull & Worn Marble
Marble can gradually lose its shine and depth over time as foot traffic, everyday use and repeated cleaning wear down the surface. You may notice the marble looking flat, cloudy or worn, with high-traffic areas becoming noticeably different from the rest of the floor. For heavily worn marble, we use a professional resin and diamond restoration system to progressively restore the surface before moving through the polishing stages, bringing back a smoother finish, improved clarity and the natural character of the stone.
Scratched Marble
Scratches on marble can range from light surface marks to deeper scratches that are clearly visible when the light catches the surface. On polished marble, even relatively fine scratching can take away from the clarity and shine, while heavier wear can leave the surface looking generally tired and uneven. For marble that has become heavily scratched or worn, our diamond and resin restoration system progressively removes the damaged surface before the polishing stages are used to refine the marble and restore a smooth, consistent finish.
Etched Marble
Etching happens when acidic substances come into contact with marble, leaving dull spots, rings or patches where the polished finish has been damaged. The most common causes are lemon and lime juice, vinegar, wine, tomatoes, fruit juices, fizzy drinks and acidic cleaning products. The marks can remain even after the surface has been thoroughly cleaned because the acid has actually chemically etched the marble itself. Our resin and diamond restoration system works through the affected surface before the marble is polished to restore a more even finish and blend the repaired area with the rest of the floor.
Stained Marble
Marble can absorb liquids and other substances into its pores, which can leave behind dark patches, marks or discolouration. Common causes include spilled drinks, food, oils, grease and other substances that have been left on the surface long enough to penetrate the stone. Some stains can be significantly improved or removed with specialist treatment, while deeper or older staining may be more difficult to fully remove. We assess the type and condition of the staining before selecting the appropriate cleaning and restoration process, followed by our resin and diamond restoration system where required.
Our Marble Restoration Process
We follow a professional step-by-step system to restore the marble:
Marble inspected and prepared
The marble is assessed to identify the level of wear, scratching, etching, staining and the finish required. The surface is then prepared for restoration.
Resin restoration stages
Our resin system is used progressively to work through surface damage and wear, refining the marble and preparing it for the polishing stages.
Diamond polishing stages
The marble is taken through the diamond polishing stages to refine the surface further, improving its smoothness, clarity and overall finish.
Final finish and sealing
Once the desired finish has been achieved, the marble is thoroughly cleaned and sealed to help protect the restored surface and make it easier to maintain.

Why Does Marble Lose Its Shine?
Marble can look incredible when it is first installed, but over time the marble naturally starts to show signs of wear. Foot traffic, dirt, grit, cleaning products and spills will gradually dull the polished surface, while certain foods and drinks can leave etched marks and patches. Eventually the marble can lose its depth and shine and start to look worn and uneven, even though it is being cleaned regularly.
Marble Cleaning & Preparation
Before any restoration work begins, the marble needs to be thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, grease, cleaning residue and anything else sitting on the surface. This gives us a clean surface to work on and allows us to properly see the condition of the marble before starting the restoration process.
Resin Restoration
For marble that has heavy wear, deeper scratching or significant surface damage, we use professional resin abrasives to work through the damaged surface. The resin stages progressively refine the marble, removing the worn surface and deeper marks and preparing the stone for the diamond polishing stages that follow.
Diamond Polishing
Once the resin stages are complete, the marble is taken through the diamond polishing stages to further refine the surface and bring back its clarity and shine. The polishing stages are progressively worked to achieve the level of finish required, leaving the marble smoother, brighter and with a deep, natural shine.
Marble Sealing
Once the restoration and polishing stages are complete, the marble is sealed to help protect the freshly restored surface from staining and everyday moisture. The sealer provides added protection against spills from food and drinks, helping to reduce absorption and make the marble easier to clean and maintain. While sealing provides added protection, acidic foods and drinks can still etch marble if they are left sitting on the surface for too long, so any spills should always be cleaned up as soon as possible.
How Much Does Marble Restoration Cost?
The cost of marble restoration depends on the size of the area, the condition of the marble and the level of restoration required. Lightly worn marble may require less restoration, while heavily scratched, etched or damaged surfaces can require more stages to achieve the desired result.
